There are a host of reasons that the Yankees obtained Nick Swisher. Let me throw out two numbers that were very vital in the decision: 28 and 4.51

Swisher turns 28 later this month. One problem the Yanks identified with their team was the lack of players in their prime years. Swisher, in theory, is right in the middle of his prime. Sabathia is 28, too, for anyone scoring at home. In theory, Swisher should be in his prime.
