More Yankee Roster Moves
We speculated yesterday about whether or not Phil Hughes would be dropped from the rotation becuase of his sub-par performance on the mound. Instead, he will be dropped from the rotation for a couple weeks because of a strained oblique. That led to several other roster moves taking place yesterday for the Bronx Bombers. With Alex Rodriguez also going on the shelf with a strained quadricep, the Yankees had two roster spots to fill.
In order to fill out their roster, the Yankees recalled Chris Britton from Scranton/Wilkes Barre. They also resigned Chad Moeller, whom they had designated for assignment last week, and optioned catcher Chris Stewart back to Triple-A.
The Yankees also designated Sean Henn for assignment, following the completion of his rehabilitation stint with SWB. The move comes as a bit of a surprise, at least to us, because if Henn had been placed on the roster instead of Britton, the Yankees would have at least one left-hander in their bullpen. This way, they have none.
Tomorrow night will be the indicator as to who will be replacing Hughes in the rotation. If Darrell Rasner doesn’t make his next start, which is supposed to be tomorrow for SWB, he will be the guy Sunday. If he does, then it should be Kei Igawa.
With one month gone in the season, the Yankees currently have five players who started the year with SWB on the roster – proof once again that your Triple-A roster can be just as important as your major league roster during a given season.
