Kevin Mulvey, one of four players the Mets sent to Minnesota for Johan Santana in the 2007 offseason, was been called up by the Twins Friday and added to their bullpen. Mulvey, a former second round pick by the Mets in 2006, has gone 3-6 with a 3.93 ERA.

“He’s best prepared to come up and help us right now,” Twins general manager Bill Smith told MLB.com. “This will be a long-relief role. So we need someone who can pitch multiple innings and he’s certainly done that.”

The 24-year-old Villanova graduate has struck out 83 and walked 31 in 103 innings for Minnesota’s Triple-A affiliate, the Rochester Red Wings. He has appeared in 17 games — all starts — and has thrown two complete games, including a complete game shutout at Toledo June 11.
