The Milwaukee Brewers lost to the host Nationals, 3-2, on Wednesday in a game that ended with Washington scoring a pair of runs in the bottom of the ninth inning thanks to a throwing error by Brewers third baseman Andruw Monasterio.
Corey Dickerson opened the ninth by reaching on first baseman Carlos Santana’s fielding error.

Alex Call hit a sharp grounder to Monasterio, whose throw home sailed wide of catcher William Contreras.
Dickerson scored easily, and Ildemaro Vargas — pinch-running for Smith — scampered home for the winning run.

Wednesday’s loss capped a 1-5 road trip for the Brewers, who dropped 2-of-3 to the Nationals after being swept by the Braves in Atlanta.
Milwaukee was busy ahead of Tuesday’s MLB trade deadline, acquiring outfielder Mark Canha from the Mets, lefty reliever Andrew Chafin from the Diamondbacks, right-hander Evan McKendry from the Rays and Santana from the Pirates.
