Nick Castellanos’ wife is sick of the constant jokes on the internet, which of course led to more jokes on the internet.

Castellanos became a crucial part of one of the most memorable moments in sports last year. In 2020, after Reds announcer Thom Brennaman was caught on a hot mic using a homophobic slur, he apologized live on air – but his amends was interrupted by a Castellanos home run.

“I pride myself and think of myself as a man of faith, as there’s a drive into deep left field by Castellanos and that’ll be a home run,” Brennaman famously said. “And so that’ll make it a 4-0 ballgame.”

The unfortunate moment quickly became a meme, oft-repeated on social media even a year later. It got so overwhelming that Castellanos’ wife, Jess, posted on Twitter trying to get people to stop.

“PSA to all Nick Castellanos joke tweets: something s–tty happens everyday in the world find a new joke,” she tweeted on Wednesday.

After baseball media figure Jomboy quote tweeted her, she responded, “And the amount of disrespectful replies and DMs is absolutely astounding by all these trolls on the internet… but I’m sure they’re great people in real life.”

Predictably, just about every single response began with an apology … and quickly veered off into the joke she was trying to put an end to.

Even Ryan Castellanos – Nick’s brother – cracked a joke at Jess’ expense.

“Honestly, it’s ridiculous how you all find pleasure in such horrific and terrible events, as there’s a drive into deep left field by Castellanos and that will be a home run. So that’ll make it a 4-0 ball game,” Ryan tweeted.

Jess responded to Ryan’s tweet, saying, “not funny.”

We’ll see if the internet ever stops making the joke, as there’s a drive into deep left field by Castellanos and that’ll be a home run. And so that’ll make it a 4-0 ballgame.
