Mets top pitching prospect Jon Niese was knocked around Buffalo’s Coca-Cola Field today as he gave up five runs in two innings before being pulled in the Bisons’ season opener against Pawtucket. After allowing an RBI double to Dusty Brown in the first inning, Niese gave up four runs in the second – all after getting two outs. Back-to-back-to-back doubles from Chip Ambres, Paul McAnulty and Brown tacked on the four runs, and Niese didn’t come back out for the third inning.

The left-hander’s line: Two innings, five runs (all earned), five hits, two strikeouts, three walks. Ouch.

You can check out my friend and former colleague Mike Harrington’s terrific Inside Pitch blog at buffalonews.com for a running play-by-play from the home opener for the Mets’ new Triple-A affiliate.
