It’s looking more and more liekly that Jon Niese will be starting for the Mets this weekend, after the 21-year-old lefty was impressive again with Triple-A New Orleans yesterday. After giving up one run in seven innings in his first start July 30, Niese allowed two runs on six hits in six innings yesterday for the Zephyrs.

With John Maine on the DL, look for Niese to make his major league debut this weekend – following in the footsteps of former minor league teammates Daniel Murphy, Nick Evans and Eddie Kunz.
