Jon Niese may have been miserable for the vast majority of the 2009 season, but if his last two starts are any indication, the Mets’ top pitching prospect may be finally getting things figured out with Triple-A Buffalo. After giving up two runs on six hits, striking out four and walking one against Indianapolis in a loss Sunday, Niese threw 7.1 shutout innings, allowing two hits, striking out seven and walking three.

For the season, Niese is 1-6 with a 6.31 ERA. In 51.1 innings through 10 starts, he has struck out 47 and walked 17.
