As if it even seemed possible at this point, the Mets got more bad injury news today when Jonathon Niese was diagnosed with a complete tear — from the bone — of his upper right hamstring tendon.

Niese immediately underwent surgery in New York and will miss the rest of the season, although the Mets say the young left-hander will be ready for the start of spring training.

Niese suffered the injury in the second inning of today’s 9-0 win over the Cardinals at Citi Field when he stretched to cover first base. Fernando Nieve, whom Niese replaced in the roation, suffered a similar injury last month.
