PHILADELPHIA — Kevin Plawecki might want to leave his jewelry in the clubhouse the next time he catches Noah Syndergaard.
With Syndergaard humming his triple-digit heat on Monday, topping out at 102 miles per hour, Plawecki was left branded by a cross that dangles from his necklace after trying to block a pitch in the dirt from the right-hander. And that was on a curveball.
Syndergaard, who pitched seven innings against the Phillies in which he allowed one run, threw 12 pitches in the first two innings alone that registered at least 100 mph. According to Fangraphs, his 98.3 mph average fastball velocity this season is tops in the major leagues.
