Omar Narvaez provided the Mets with a steady backup catching presence last season, and has decided to continue with the club.
On Thursday, the veteran catcher exercised his player option for next season worth $7 million.
Narvaez began last season in a job share with Tomas Nido, but a calf strain sent Narvaez to the injured list a week into the season.

Narvaez, 31, appeared in 49 games for the Mets and owned a .211/.283/.297 slash line with two homers and seven RBIs.
Narvaez arrived last winter as a free agent on a one-year deal that contained the player option for next season.
