Although rain could still wash this one out, the lineups are in for todayâs game between the Mets and Dodgers at Shea Stadium in what could be the last chance for Mike Pelfrey (pictured) to stay in Willie Randolphâs rotation. With Pedro Martinez set to return Tuesday in San Francisco, the Mets appear likely to create a roster spot for him by sending Pelfrey to the minors or Claudio Vargas to the bullpen. How Pelfrey pitches today will be crucial.
Meanwhile, neither right fielder Ryan Church (concussion) nor second baseman Luis Castillo (hip flexor/quadriceps strain) are playing today, but both are hopeful of returning to action in Sunday nightâs finale of the four-game series.
This is how the 26-27 Mets will look:
Jose Reyes SS
Endy Chavez RF
David Wright 3B
Carlos Beltran CF
Carlos Delgado 1B
Damion Easley 2B
Brian Schneider C
Fernando Tatis LF
Mike Pelfrey RHP (2-6, 5.33)
Pelfrey has never faced the Dodgers, so no numbers are available.
LA, which reached .500 at 27-27 with Friday nightâs win and is second in the NL West, will go with the following order:
Juan Pierre LF
Matt Kemp CF
Jeff Kent 2B
James Loney 1B
Russell Martin C
Andre Ethier RF
Blake DeWitt 3B
Luis Maza SS
Chad Billingsley RHP (4-6, 3.68)
