The Baltimore Orioles, coming off an MLB-worst 115 losses in 2018, are turning to Cubs bench coach Brandon Hyde to succeed Buck Showalter as manager, according to reports.
The Athletic confirmed the hiring, after The Post’s Joel Sherman first reported the deal as close.
The 45-year-old Hyde is known for strong communication skills and a diverse resume: farm director, base coach, bench coach, interim big-league manager and minor-league manager.
Last season, he was Joe Maddon’s bench coach in Chicago. He also served in various dugout capacities for the Marlins before joining the Cubs.
He was 351-343 in six minor-league seasons as manager — Double-A being his highest level.
The Orioles had not made the hiring official, but did confirm that Hyde had been among their top candidates.
