Trey Mancini has had a momentous 2021. He beat colon cancer, returned as starting first baseman for the Baltimore Orioles and appeared in the Home Run Derby.

And now he is engaged to Sara Perlman, a host for NBC Sports and PointsBet, an online sportsbook.

Perlman announced the news on Twitter:

In 2020, Perlman detailed their origin story as a couple on Instagram:

“I met Trey a few years ago working at MASN,” Perlman wrote. “I still laugh thinking about a show we did together back in 2017. He was one of my favorite people to interview. I knew I’d get great insight and he’d have a good attitude about whatever I asked! I never thought life would take me where it has, but I’m so happy it did.

“After I left Baltimore, he must have missed my daily interviews and lengthy questions sooo much he asked me to dinner.”

Shortly after they began dating, Mancini was diagnosed with colon cancer. He missed the 2020 season while in treatment, which she aided with.

ESPN published an extensive story on their relationship this past July. “It was kind of wild, because we were just kind of learning about each other, that way you do in a new relationship,” Perlman said in the story. “Then you switch gears to a caretaker. … Our relationship kind of took a turn. It was true fight or flight.”
