Money doesn’t always talk.
Red Sox manager John Farrell announced on Thursday that Travis Shaw would start at third base over Pablo Sandoval, beginning with Opening Day, despite the fact that Sandoval is entering the second season of a five-year, $95 million deal.
“My focus is on the guys that are in uniform, not what’s attached to them or what their contract states,” Farrell told the Boston Globe.
It’s a fitting end for Sandoval’s nightmare spring training, which started with an unflattering photo of his oft-criticized gut.
