David Ortiz, who’s close with former teammate Pedro Martinez, told The Post this afternoon that he spoke to Martinez a month ago and believes the right-hander is going to pitch this season.

“He will,” the Red Sox DH said at Yankee Stadium. “Somebody will need him at one point. At some point.”

Ortiz’s comments essentially echo what Martinez texted to The Post on April 5. That day Martinez said he wants to pitch this year if things align properly, writing, “In the right situations, yes. If not see you somewhere around.”

Ortiz, who called Martinez “like a father to me,” said he spoke to the pitcher mid-to-late last month. The slugger said Martinez was then working out in the Dominican Republic and Miami. Ortiz said Martinez “wasn’t really talking to [any teams] at the time.”

Martinez did not immediately return a text message from The Post.

After throwing out the first pitch for the Red Sox on Opening Day, Martinez said he had plans to pitch this season.
