While the game is still going on, Bobby Parnell succeeded in outpitching one of the top picks in the 2008 First-Year Player Draft, Brian Matusz, in Arizona Fall League action this afternoon. Parnell was unspectacular, pitching three innings and allowing one run on four hits, striking out two and walking three. Parnell’s biggest problem, as the walk total suggests, was control: he threw 49 pitches, managing to get 24 of them over for strikes.

However, he did a better job than Matusz, who gave up three runs (all on solo home runs) on five hits in three innings, striking out one and walking one.
