According to a report out of the Dominican Republic by The Associated Press, the Mets might be close to bringing Pedro Martinez back to Queens for another year. The report is attributed to Mets GM Omar Minaya, and appears to contradict Minaya’s statements recently that Pedro wasn’t a priority. Considering Martinez’s numerous injuries recently, I can only see the Mets doing this by way of a one-year (probably minor league) deal offering only the chance to compete with Tim Redding, Freddy Garcia and Jon Niese for the No. 5 spot.
