Pedro’s night is over. He went six innings, allowed two runs on four hits, struck out six and didn’t walk anyone. Both runs and all four hits (all singles) came in the fourth inning. In the other five innings, the only batter who reached base was the first hitter of the game, who reached on an error. Despite Pedro’s successful outing, he probably wasn’t even the best pitcher on the field tonight. Martinez was opposed by the No. 1 overall pick in last year’s draft, David Price, who was absolutely dominant. In six scoreless innings, Price gave up two hits and struck out nine – with no walks. He faced 19 hitters – one over the minimum 18 – in his six innings.
In two starts this year, Price hasn’t allowed a run in 11 innings, giving up five hits while striking out 13 and walking one.
