PORT ST. LUCIE — Mike Pelfrey didn’t exactly end spring training on a high note. The big right-hander was shelled here today for the second time in 10 days, giving up eight runs on 10 hits to the Orioles in just four innings of the Mets’ Grapefruit League finale.

The Mets rallied for a 10-9 win in the bottom of the ninth to finish the spring 17-14-1, but that hardly overshadowed another ugly day by their No. 2 starter.

“The only good thing that comes out of today is I feel good,” Pelfrey said. “I was able to get my pitch count up, and I’m going to wake up on Sunday or Monday not having given up any hits yet or any runs. That’s probably about the only good thing I can take out of this.”

Pelfrey gave up a whopping 15 runs on 22 hits over his final nine innings this spring. His next start will be next Wednesday in Cincinnati against the Reds.

“I didn’t feel great [the last 10 days of spring],” said Pelfrey, who has been bothered by shin splints in his left leg. “But I mean, I still should’ve been able to get guys out and make a few pitches, and I failed to do that.”

The Mets return to New York and take the covers off new Citi Field tomorrow night with a 6:10 p.m. exhibition against the Red Sox. Livan Hernandez is scheduled to start for the Amazin’s, and the game will be televised live by SNY.
