PORT ST. LUCIE — Mike Pelfrey spoke to reporters here this morning for the first time since the Mets announced he would be sidelined indefinitely with a strained muscle in his lower left leg. Pelfrey said he didn’t know how the injury occured except that it happened sometime during his side session Friday.

Pelfrey doesn’t expect to make his next scheduled start Monday here against the Orioles but is hopeful of throwing a bullpen session on Wednesday, the Mets’ off day.

“I don’t imagine this pushing me back too far,” Pelfrey said.
