Pete Alonso is spending his idle time during the coronavirus pandemic shutdown watching baseball and longing to hear the roars of the Citi Field faithful.

The record-setting 2019 National League Rookie of the Year penned a note to Mets fans Friday that everyone needs to “stay safe and stay together” until whenever Major League Baseball resumes.

“This year, when we have our normal lives and our game back, I can’t wait to let all this pent up anticipation out,” Alonso wrote in a post to Twitter. “We’re going to play our hearts out. I can’t wait to hear y’all cheer your lungs out! Shake the damn stadium! You guys are going to sound like (an) eruption. In the meantime, let’s all stay together and all stay safe. LFGM.”

Alonso, who belted a rookie record 53 home runs last season in his first season in Flushing, added he’s constantly been watching replays from last season with the MLB delayed due to COVID-19.

“I catch myself every night watching 2019 Mets highlights. The amount of time watching them varies, but it’s a nightly routine at this point,” the Mets’ first baseman wrote. “Re-watching the crowd erupt and remembering those moments as I saw them never ceases to give me goose bumps.

“I miss the feel of Citi Field dirt beneath my cleats. As I’m writing this now, I can still see pitchers get nasty and go get a big strikeout, someone running down missile in the gap and making a diving catch, someone twisting up a sexy double play up the middle. I see it and remember it all. The thing that I remember most is the roar from the fans after a play was made.”

Last week, the 25-year-old Alonso sent personalized video messages to various medical personnel, thanking them for their efforts to save lives during the ongoing crisis.
