Andy Pettitte is one start away from rejoining the Yankees’ rotation.
The left-hander will make another start for Double-A Trenton Tuesday in the first game of the Eastern League’s championship series before returning to the rotation a week from today against the Orioles.
“I could pitch in a major league game and get through the game, but I don’t want to just get through the game,” Pettitte said before Saturday’s game. “There’s no doubt I could pitch in a big league game Tuesday night, but they don’t wanna do that.
“I’ll be good to go Sunday in Baltimore .¤.¤. that’s when I’m pitching.”
Pettitte, who threw 51 pitches in four scoreless innings Thursday in Trenton, will pitch at either Altoona or Harrisburg Tuesday. His last start for the Yankees came July 18 against the Rays.
