The Yankees had the whole weekend to get the three-game sweep at the hands of the Rays off their minds after the Subway Series was postponed due to a positive COVID test from a Mets player and coach. To get into the week ahead and all the Yankees injuries, we present to you a brand new episode of the “Pinstripe Pod” with Chris Shearn and four-time World Series champion Jeff Nelson.

Shearn and Nellie open up the show talking about the return of Aaron Judge this week when the Yankees go to Atlanta Tuesday and how important it will be to have him back in the lineup. They get into the rest of the Yankees’ long list of injuries from Gleyber Torres to James Paxton and the rest of the walking wounded. The guys talk about the Rays sweeping the Yankees in the Bronx last week and their dominance over them this season. Are the Rays the better team right now? As we were doing the show, I break the news about the rescheduled Subway Series games reported by Joel Sherman happening over the weekend and what it means for the schedule and rotation moving forward.

In “Nellie’s Nugget” this week, he looks back to a story from the 1996 Yankees and superstitions. It involves guys burning their gloves and gear and it resulting in a fire in the bullpen, leading to the game being delayed a few minutes.

NY Post baseball columnist and friend of the program Ken Davidoff then joins the guys from the road on his way to Atlanta to cover the two-game set between the Yankees and Braves. They talk about his food options, likely going with McDonald’s or Burger King on the way. They then get into some baseball, including Paxton’s constant injuries. Is there a chance he does not come back this season? Are many of these injuries more so on the shortened season and funky schedule? Will all teams be able to get all 60 games in? They also talk about Gerrit Cole’s reaction to being pulled in his last start, the overusing of the bullpen and whether or not the Rays are the favorites in the AL East.
