TORONTO — Pitching coach Dave Eiland wasn’t with the Yankees for Friday’s game against the Blue Jays at Rogers Centre.

Eiland was granted a leave of absence by the organization to attend to an undisclosed family matter that is not related to his health.

Though Eiland’s absence isn’t expected to be a long one, Joe Girardi said Eiland can take as much time as required.

“He will be gone as long as he needs and that’s all I am going to say,’’ Girardi said. “He will get as much time as he needs.’’

With Eiland gone, bullpen coach Mike Harkey will serve as the pitching coach, and Staten Island native Charlie Wonsowicz, an advance scout and video coordinator, will monitor the bullpen. Wonsowicz pitched for Tottenville High School and St. John’s. Harkey’s pitching -coach experience is all in the minor leagues.

How Eiland’s absence affects the pitching staff is worth watching because hurlers rely on a coach for mechanical advice as well as a pat on the back or kick in the butt.

“We will band-aid it until he gets back,’’ GM Brian Cashman said of the former Yankees pitcher who is in his third season as Girardi’s pitching coach. “It’s an important position and one he does well. Like everything else, you adjust and move forward.’’
