This is taking the term heads-up play to a whole new level.

Shortstop Bon-Ki of the South Korean baseball team Lotte Giants struggled to corral a fly ball hit to shallow left field in the eighth inning of a tie game in Wednesday’s matchup against the Hanwha Eagles, and the ball struck him squarely on his head.

But fortunately for Bon-Ki, the ball popped up into the air and into the glove of left fielder Jeon Jun-Woo for the out.

Bon-Ki was OK, and remained in the game, according to Deadspin, but his Lotte Giants lost 4-3.

This turns out to be another reminder that heads-up plays don’t always lead to victories.
