Jorge Posada was slated to travel with the Yankees to Texas and has been medically cleared to play this weekend against the Rangers.
Posada was examined Wednesday in New York after showing signs of a concussion following Tuesday night’s game when he was hit in the mask with a foul tip.
The tests were negative but Joe Girardi might not rush his No. 1 catcher back Friday.
“He has been cleared but playing is a different story,’’ Brian Cashman said. “That’s a decision Joe will make.’’
Having Chad Moeller as a third catcher gives Girardi flexibility behind the plate, where he also has Francisco Cervelli.
