BALTIMORE — Jorge Posada left tonight’s game against the Orioles in the middle of the second inning after getting hit in the right leg by a pitch from Jeremy Guthrie.

Posada led off the second inning and was hit by a 94 mph fastball from Guthrie in the back of the right knee. Posada spent a few minutes around home plate and walking to first base, joined by manager Joe Girardi and trainer Steve Donahue.

Once on first base, Posada convinced Girardi to leave him in the game, but he looked like he was in a great deal of pain getting to second on a Curtis Granderson single. Then, Granderson nearly passed him on the way to home plate on Nick Swisher’s bases-clearing triple.

Francisco Cervelli entered the game in Posada’s place to begin the bottom of the second.
