Here are three potential targets for the Yankees this offseason:

Corey Seager

Seager is part of this offseason’s excellent class of free-agent shortstops, an area of need, as Brian Cashman has admitted Gleyber Torres is better-suited for second base. Seager hits from the left side, which would address another deficiency in the Yankee lineup, but he won’t come cheaply. Carlos Correa will be available, as well and if the Yankees decide to opt for a stopgap before one of their prospects might be ready, Andrelton Simmons is an option.

Kevin Gausman

Gausman has been linked to the Yankees before, and Robbie Ray is another possibility. The Yankees gambled on Corey Kluber’s health a year ago and it didn’t pay off, as he was bothered by a shoulder injury for a second straight season. Now they need to fill that spot.

If the Yankees wanted to just plug in a few players, they could hit the free-agent market and add Seager, Gausman and outfielder Starling Marte — and bring back Anthony Rizzo — all of which are possibilities. But Cashman has hinted at more of a roster overhaul, which is where a trade for Oakland’s first baseman would make sense.
