Willie Randolph and now-fired pitching coach Rick Peterson just left the Mets’ hotel here in Costa Mesa, Calif., on their way to the airport for flights back to New York. Speaking briefly and with his voice cracking slightly, an emotional Randolph said he was “stunned” by his dismissal and — despite Omar Minaya’s earlier comment — had no inkling it was coming. Peterson, meanwhile, gave a typically (for him) off-beat, philosophical statement thanking the Wilpons for the chance to coach in New York and comparing the coaching changes to “renovating a house.” Axed first base coach Tom Nieto departed the hotel without speaking to reporters.
