The Red Sox have added a starter before the Yankees. And he’s a familiar one.
Boston traded for Nathan Eovaldi on Wednesday morning in exchange for pitching prospect Jalen Beeks, as first reported by The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal, adding the right-hander to a staff headlined by David Price, Rick Porcello and Chris Sale.
Eovaldi, a Yankee in 2015 and ’16 before Tommy John surgery, has returned strong this year, with an ERA sitting at 4.26 with the Rays. He adds depth to Boston’s rotation with Eduardo Rodriguez on the disabled list.
Before the trade, Eovaldi was scheduled to pitch against the Yankees on Wednesday.
The 24-year-old Beeks, the Red Sox’s 15th-best prospect, according to MLB.com, made his MLB debut this year. In Triple-A Pawtucket, he had a 2.89 ERA in 16 starts.
