The Red Sox finally seem ready to part with their best player.

According to MLB Network’s Jon Heyman, the Red Sox “seem more serious than ever” about trading Mookie Betts, citing the Dodgers and Padres as the most likely destinations for the 26-year-old former MVP.

Betts, a four-time All-Star who led Boston to the 2018 World Series title while becoming the first player in major league history to win an MVP, Gold Glove, batting title, Silver Slugger and World Series in the same year, is eligible to become a free agent after this season and could land the largest contract in the sport’s history. Earlier this month, Betts agreed to a $27 million contract with the Red Sox, which stands as the largest one-year salary for an arbitration-eligible player.

The Padres were reportedly ready to send veteran Wil Myers, two young major league players and at least one prospect for Betts, but a roadblock emerged in the teams’ inability to agree on how much each would take on of Myers’ $61 million contract. The Athletic previously reported that the Diamondbacks were also interested in Betts.
