The Red Sox have made their first major splash following the departure of Alex Bregman. 

Boston agreed to a deal with All-Star left-hander Ranger Suárez, The Post’s Jon Heyman first reported. 

The longtime Phillies pitcher’s deal is for five years and $130 million. 

The contract does not come with any deferrals, Heyman added. 

Suárez, 30, went 12-8 with a 3.20 ERA over 26 starts for Philadelphia last season. 

He made his first career All-Star team in 2024, when he posted an identical 12-8 record with a 3.46 ERA. 

The eight-year MLB veteran solidifies Boston’s rotation behind ace Garrett Crochet, right-hander Brayan Bello and fellow offseason acquisitions Sonny Gray and Johan Oviedo. 

Red Sox general manager Craig Breslow suggested that Boston would explore improving its pitching and defense in the wake of Bregman signing with Chicago. 

“It’s going to sound redundant, but we’ll be open to any way to improve our team,” Breslow wrote Sunday in a Q&A with MassLive. 

“Free agency is an obvious path, but so are trades. We will try to continue to add offense, but leaning into pitching and defense is another way to boost our win total.” 

Suárez marks Boston’s first free agency acquisition of the offseason, after netting first baseman Willson Contreras, Gray and Oviedo in trades. 

The Phillies were not expected to re-sign Suárez despite entering 2026 without star hurler Zack Wheeler, who underwent surgery for thoracic outlet syndrome in September.
