It looks like a former Yankee is headed to the Red Sox.
Boston, who is in first place in the AL East, traded for Giants third baseman Eduardo Nunez and gave up a couple of minor league pitching prospects, according to multiple reports.
Third base has been a problem area for The Red Sox all season. Last week, Boston released Pablo Sandoval, who they signed to a three-year, $95 million deal in 2014. They’re hoping Nunez, batting .308 with four home runs, 31 RBIs and 18 steals this season, will help fill the hole.
Interestingly, a couple of days ago Sandoval signed a minor league contract to return to San Francisco.
The Red Sox are currently starting rookie Rafael Devers at third. The 20-year-old made his first major-league start Tuesday night against the Mariners. He went 1-for-4 with two walks in Boston’s 6-5, 13-inning loss.
