The thinking was that the A’s would only pursue Johnny Damon if they could not sign Ben Sheets.

But even though Oakland just forked over $10 million for Sheets they are still talking to Damon, ESPN’s Buster Olney reports. Olney believes that Oakland would give Damon $4-5 million, but right now that is more than anyone else is offering.

The Yankees are believed to be the highest bidder at $2 million.
