The Braves have made a one-year offer to Johnny Damon, who may be holding out for a two-year deal from the Tigers.

MLB.com reports on the Braves offer, and says Chipper Jones would like to see his team add the former Yankees outfielder.

“I think he’d be a good addition,” Jones said. “He’s a guy with experience and he provides us depth at the outfield position.”

FOXSports.com writer Jon Paul Morosi counters with the Tigers now “devoted to the pursuit of Damon.”

Damon last night told the Atlanta Journal Constitution the Braves “are definitely a team that is on top of the list,” while agent Scott Boras continues to praise how the outfielder would fit in on the Tigers.

The Journal Constitution says, “There have been indications the Braves have only about $2 million or $3 million more that they are willing to spend on player payroll, while others believe the figure could be at least twice that.”

Damon has said he is seeking two years at $22 million after turning down lesser offers to return to the Yankees.

David O’Brien writes that Braves GM Frank Wren said Monday the team would keep an eye on unsigned free agents in case the price falls enough to fit their budget.

Boras has publicly pursued the Tigers in the past week, even pointing out that Damon is a Detroit Red Wings fan.
