The Marlins are interested in former Mets first baseman Carlos Delgado as a low-money backup or pinch hitter, according to the Miami Herald.

However, Barry Jackson writes that Delgado “wants substantial money and playing time.”

Delgado did not sound too enamored with any major-league offer when giving a press conference in Puerto Rico on Tuesday.

“There are teams of both leagues, but I’m not going to go crazy just to say I signed. When the moment comes and the right situation comes up, I’ll know what to do,” Delgado said, according to the Puerto Rico newspaper Primera Hora

“We are talking. There are a few points that have yet to be discussed.”

And if he does not get a proper offer, Delgado may end his career.

“If there is no work, I’ll retire. That’s not Plan A, but if I don’t get any work, I can’t do anything about it. I am staying positive and the lines of communication are open to try to create a situation,” Delgado said.

Delgado, who still sports a Mets logo on his Twitter page, signed with the Marlins as a free agent in 2005, picking Florida over New York. After one season, he was traded by the Marlins to the Mets in a deal that included Mike Jacobs, who reportedly is on his way back to New York.

Delgado, 38 in June, played this winter in Puerto Rico in part to show scouts he had recovered from the hip injury that ended last season prematurely. The Orioles reportedly scouted him there.
