The Mets have contacted Yankees utilityman Jerry Hairston, according to FOXSports.com
The report by Ken Rosenthal says Hairston could help fill in for injured center fielder Carlos Beltran and backup shortstop Jose Reyes.
Rosenthal points out Hairston is the only free agent available who can play both positions.
