Peter Abraham of the Boston Globe reported this morning that a Wang-Nationals pact is ‘close to being completed.’

The Dodgers were the other team interested in Wang. But after GM Ned Colletti watched the sinker-baller throw today, he is reportedly ready to move on.

Wang is throwing three times a week now as he recovers from elbow surgery and will not join Washington’s rotation until May. The Mets were thought to be one of the teams with the most interest, but it is unknown if they made an offer.

Wang won 19 games for the Yankees in 2006 and 2007. He was on his way to similar success in 2008 when he suffered foot and ankle injuries running the bases in mid-June that ended his season.

Wang started 2009 in the Yankees rotation, but posted a 34.50 ERA in three April starts. Wang moved between the minors, rotation and bullpen in the following two months before the elbow injury ended his season on July 4.
