The Yankees had three of their top 10 prospects playing in the Arizona Fall League, and all three of them lived up to expectations.

Left-hander Manny Banuelos, the youngest prospect in the league, went 0-2 but with a very respectable 3.60 ERA, striking out 16 and walking 10 in 25 innings. His catcher, both in the AFL and at the end of the season with Double-A Trenton, was Austin Romine. The son of former Red Sox and Tigers’ outfielder Kevin (and brother of Angels shortstop Andrew), Romine fought through the fatigue of catching the most games in a year in his career (131 total games) by putting together a .279/.313/.328 line in Arizona.

Finally, Brandon Laird struggled a bit in terms of batting average, hitting .236 (with a .282 on-base percentage), but hit four homers and drove in 22 runs in 110 at-bats. After a breakout campaign in 2010, Laird will have a chance to stick with the Yankees as a bench player if he performs well in spring training.

Here are the final numbers from the Yankees’ players in the AFL:

Austin Romine: .279 batting average (17-for-61), .313 on-base percentage, .328 slugging percentage, 0 HR, 7 RBI Brandon Laird: .236 batting average (26-for-110), .282 on-base percentage, .436 slugging percentage, 4 HR, 22 RBI
