Joe West’s reputation precedes him – though, perhaps not in the way he would like.

The long-serving, sometimes controversial MLB umpire was out in Minneapolis on Monday night, celebrating a career milestone, when the steakhouse he was visiting decided to get one over on West.

When he arrived at the restaurant, joined by Vikings legends Paul Krause and Dave Casper, he was handed a menu written entirely in braille.

West, who moved into second this week on the all-time list for most games umpired (5,164), seemed to have a sense of humor about the prank.

Asked if he could understand the menu, West replied: “I know the top line. Rib-eye steak. Forty-five bucks. I’ll take it.”

Of course, the last time West shared his sense of humor, it got him suspended. But he should be OK this time.
