Jose Reyes‘ long-overdue surgery to remove scar tissue on his right hamstring tendon was finally performed today in Dallas, and the Mets expect their All-Star shortstop to be fully recovered in time for spring training.

Reyes, who didn’t play after May 20, had the surgery by Dr. Daniel Cooper in consultation with the Mets’ team physicians. Cooper is the Cowboys’ team physician and specializes in hamstring tendon injuries in athletes.

The Mets said Reyes will start his rehab shortly and can resume baseball activities “soon after the new year.”
