Reyes sidelined again
(UPDATED) SAN FRANCISCO — Jose Reyes is out of the lineup for the third game in a row today because of continued soreness in his right calf. Alex Cora replaced Reyes at shortstop once again and was slotted second in the lineup.
Reyes said the tightness is in his upper right shin and the calf muscle behind it. He doesn’t know how the injury happened but that it developed just before Wednesday’s game against the Braves at Citi Field. Reyes played in that game but has been held out ever since.
Reyes was able to pinch hit Friday night in the seventh inning of the Mets’ 8-6 win here, although he struck out swinging.
“Today, from what I understand, it wasn’t so much tenderness as it was tightness in the calf,” Jerry Manuel said this afternoon. “With that being said, obviously we’ll give him another day and see if that can loosen up on him. Hopefully, he’ll be ready in the next day or so.”
