PORT ST. LUCIE — Mets shortstop Jose Reyes will start the season on the disabled list and miss at least the first five games of the season.

Reyes, who missed three weeks of spring training recovering from a thyroid issue, will be put on the disabled list retroactive to March 26. He would be eligible to play April 11 against the Nationals.

The Mets want to make sure Reyes is in top baseball shape after missing so much preparation time.
