Robbie Cano, don’tcha know that was Max Scherzer?

The new Mets second baseman shrugged off the Nationals ace and made a strong first impression Thursday, belting a home run in the top of the first inning at Nationals Park.

Scherzer struck out the side around him, but Cano put the Mets on top 1-0 on Opening Day, his first in a Mets uniform after coming over from the Mariners with Edwin Diaz in the December blockbuster trade.

He became the 10th Met to hit a home run in his first at-bat with the team. The last to do so was Mike Jacobs on Aug. 21, 2005.

Jacob deGrom hardly got any run support last season, but he was off to a good start Thursday, taking the mound with a lead.
