As the Mets wind down a miserable 2023, they’ll be getting a glimpse at the future beginning Friday, with Ronny Mauricio finally getting the call-up from the minors he waited for nearly all season.
Mauricio, who is batting ninth, said through an interpreter he was ready “to put on a show” prior to his MLB debut against the Mariners at Citi Field.
He was in the lineup at second base, a position he just started learning this season and joined a roster that included other members of a potential youth movement, with Brett Baty back from Triple-A Syracuse, back up after being sent down after going 0-for-18 with eight strikeouts in his last six games before being sent down in early August.

Ronny Mauricio is the Mets’ No. 4 prospect, according to MLB Pipeline. USA TODAY SportsFrancisco Alvarez and Mark Vientos are also on the roster, with Mauricio saying he’s hoping the four of them can be part of a new core.
Mauricio, a switch hitter, posted an .852 OPS in 116 games with Triple-A Syracuse, which included 23 home runs and 24 steals.
