Duaner Sanchez’s long comeback from two surgeries on his right shoulder reaches its final stages today, when the Mets are scheduled to bring him off the DL. He will take the place of Carlos Muniz, who is being sent back down. The right-hander was one of the best set-up men in baseball when he wrecked his shoulder in a July 2006 taxi accident in Miami. Sanchez hasn’t appeared in a regular-season game since.

Sanchez came back strong this spring but was put on the DL at the start of the season so he could build up arm strength. He passed his final test over the weekend, pitching in back-to-back games for the Mets’ Triple-A affiliate in New Orleans.
