Johan Santana shed his spring-training wheels yesterday and came tearing down the block, leaving a trail of flattened fish in his wake.
Who knows where the rest of this rotation will take the Mets in 2010, but at least their ace still appears to be their ace.
And some of these new arrivals didn’t look so bad, either. It all spelled a glorious season-opener for the Mets, who are above .500 for the first time since last June 28 after beating the Marlins 7-1 before an announced sellout of 41,245 at Citi Field.
“We played a crisp game,” David Wright said. “It gives you a tremendous advantage when you have [No.] 57 on the mound and you can get a couple of runs early.”
