Catcher Brian Schneider has been sent back to New York to have an infected left thumb examined by team doctors. Schneider will be hospitalized overnight while the infection is treated with antibotics. There is no DL stint planned just yet for Schneider, who had returned only Wednesday after missing three games with a bruised right forearm.

The Mets recalled catcher Gustavo Molina from Triple-A New Orleans and made room by designating outfielder Brady Clark for assignment.
