Pitcher Johan Romero today became the second Mets prospect this week to be suspended 50 games by Major League Baseball for testing positive for performance-enhancing drugs. Romero’s suspension follows the same action Tuesday against Jose Hernandez, a 20-year-old right hander in the Mets’ system.
Both prospects were playing for the Mets in the Venezuelan summer league.
MLB said Romero, like Hernandez a pitcher, tested positive for metabolites of Stanozolol, which baseball said was a “performance-enhancing substance.”
Romero’s suspension begins immediately.
